Join the award-winning HALLE and its conductor Stephen Bell for a musical evening of Spanish-inspired warmth. The programme includes music from one of the best loved operas of all time - Bizet's Carmen. Packed with high drama, passionate characters and great melodies, the extracts include the flamenco-inspired Seguidilla, the stirring March of the Toreadors and Carmen's legendary Habanera. The programme also includes Albeniz's seductive Asturias, De Falla's Suite No.1 from The Three-Cornered Hat, Glinka's colourful Jota Aragonesa and Granados's Spanish Dance No.5, a work filled with daring and panache. The exciting guitarist, Craig Ogden, takes to the stage to perform Rodrigo's hugely popular Concierto de Aranjuez: the opening movement echoes traditional Spanish dances, such as the fandango, before moving onto the famous, poetic Adagio and concluding in almost childlike simplicity with the final movement. Escape a cold winter's evening with this soul-warming, not-to-be-missed concert.
