Whether you’re out shopping and want to take the weight off your feet, fancy lunch with family or friends, need to grab a snack before a show or want to treat yourself to an interval drink, the Hippo Lounge serves hot and cold drinks and light bites throughout the day. Darlington Hippodrome is only a short stroll from the town centre so there’s no need to wait until showtime – you can soak up a little bit of theatre any time of the week!

The theatre boasts accessible bars on all levels; perfect places to meet and relax before the show and during the interval.

The Hippo Lounge

The Hippo Lounge is open from 10am Monday - Saturday, and hot food is served until 6pm. On Sundays where there is a show, it opens one hour before the show begins.

Accessed via the new main entrance on Parkgate, the Hippo Lounge is at the heart of the restored theatre. This contemporary café provides a relaxed atmosphere throughout the day along with access to free wi-fi, and a selection of light bites and hot and cold beverages.

Taylor's Butchers are now supplying freshly made pork pies, sausage rolls, and mini quiches. Fresh sandwiches are made every day in house, with a variety of fillings, as well as vegan and gluten free options.
