Volunteer
Applications to Volunteer with Darlington Culture Volunteers are currently closed but will reopen on 1st October 2024.
Darlington Culture Volunteers provides volunteering opportunities to support and promote arts and culture at the Hippodrome and beyond.
Volunteers promote and support cultural events and have the opportunity to learn new skills whilst finding out more about what goes on behind the scenes both at the Hippodrome and at many other venues in and around Darlington. All volunteers are required to complete an enhanced DBS check prior to volunteering.
Current volunteering opportunities include:
Welcome Hosts
Welcome hosts volunteer at the Hippodrome to welcome audiences entering the venue prior to performances, and provide a helpful point of contact to direct audience members to various areas within the theatre or to answer any questions they may have.
Tour Assistant
Volunteers support with tours at the Hippodrome by accompanying groups, supporting the Tour Guide and being a point of contact for any questions.
Tour Guide
Training opportunities are available for volunteers who wish to lead tours at Darlington Hippodrome. This involves leading community groups around the building and talking about how the theatre operates and its heritage.
Touch Tour support
These are special tours of the stage and set for blind and visually impaired audience members. These are led by our audio describer but are supported by volunteers.
Arts workshop support
There are opportunities for volunteers to support arts and craft activities for families and young people at various events.
Event Steward/Stallholder
Volunteers may be required to steward at events e.g welcoming people, setting up and supporting events and exhibitions, dealing with the public, providing information, or hosting an information stall.
Please note Darlington Hippodrome is a receiving theatre, which means we receive productions along with their sets and costumes. We do not produce work, therefore do not provide volunteer opportunities in costume or set design, stage management, directing/producing, or acting.
