Venue: Darlington Hippodrome
Every Picture Tells a Story A new musical based on, and faithful to, the original 1890 novel by Oscar Wilde. Dorian Gray is a young, wealthy and extremely attractive young man living in the often hedonistic world of upper class Victorian London. After having a portrait painted of himself by the accomplished artist Basil Hallward, he makes a wish and is granted with the gift of eternal youth and good looks. As he grapples with the notion of possessing immortality, the picture growing old instead of him, Dorian descends, with the assistance of his greatest friend, the witty, influential and cynical aristocrat Lord Henry Wotton, into an ever more debauched lifestyle of increasingly questionable morality, the painting all the while absorbing his sins and wrongdoings into its canvas. This new musical is heavily inspired by the dark, classic, sung-through musicals of the 1970s and 1980s. Set in two acts, twenty years apart, with classic staging and a delicious overture! PLEASE NOTE: This is a new and original work. It is not (and not affiliated in any way) with the production titled "Dorian - The Musical" which was staged at the Southwark Playhouse in 2024. Age Guidance: 14+ (parental guidance recommended) Content Guidance: Haze, loud noises including gunshots, simulated smoking, flashing lights, strobe effects and adult themes including murder, suicide and sex.
